About Us

Boy Scout Troop 21, chartered by the First Church of the Nazarene of Pasadena for over 50 years, is an extremely active and exciting troop. We are advancement-oriented, focusing on scouting skills and outdoor activities. We have a high advancement rate and a high percentage of boys who become Eagle Scouts (Over 80 Eagle Scouts to date). We take the Scout Oath seriously, especially the Duty to God. We orient our maps with a compass, and find direction for our lives with the moral compass of God's Word, the Bible.

Location

Troop 21 is located at the First Church of the Nazarene of Pasadena, 3700 East Sierra Madre Boulevard, Meguiar Youth Center (Room 134), Pasadena, California. We are extremely blessed to have the use of the excellent facilities here at First Church.

Uniform

Official Boy Scout Uniform is worn at each meeting, Court of Honor, Camporee, and other designated special occasions. Official Boy Scout Uniform includes the following:

  • Official Boy Scout Shirt with US flag on right shoulder (long or short sleeve)
  • Official Boy Scout Pants (long or short)
  • Official Web Belt and Buckle
  • Official Boy Scout Socks
  • Neckerchief Slide
  • Patches for shirt: San Gabriel Valley Council Shoulder Patch, Numerals 2 and 1

The above items may be purchased at the Scout Shop located at 3450 East Sierra Madre Boulevard in Pasadena. We will provide all new boys with a Troop 21 Neckerchief.

Meetings

Meetings are held each Monday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. in the Meguiar Youth Center of First Church except major holidays and the month of August. Parents' meetings are held first Monday of each month when the boys have their regular meetings. All parents are encouraged to attend the parents meetings.

Calendar Events

Troop 21 plans its coming year events in August every year. Besides weekly scout meetings, the Troop has monthly outings and other activities. A detailed calendar is available at http://www.troop21bsa.org/calendar/.

Courts of Honor

Courts of Honor (except for Eagle Courts of Honor) are held three times per year, at which time boys can be recognized for their advancements and achievements. Courts of Honor are held at regular Monday meeting hours, and we encourage you to bring the entire family, if possible. We really encourage good family participation so there will be a good audience for the award presentations. Families are asked to bring in desserts and drinks for these Courts of Honor.

Scout Leadership

Troop 21 is a "scout run" troop under the guidance and counsel of the adult leadership. Elections are held twice each year and boys are elected to the office of Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leaders, and Assistant Patrol Leaders. Other positions are also available for the boys so that they can fulfill their rank requirements.

Adult Leadership

Adult leaders are greatly involved in guidance and counsel of the boys in Troop 21. Our parents are greatly involved as Scoutmaster, Assistant Scoutmasters, Merit Badge Counselors, and in other responsibilities. We make sure we have enough parents to attend outdoor activities.

Camping/Hiking Equipment

An outing is planned for each month and unless otherwise announced, we leave the church at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday morning and return between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Dads (and moms) are welcome on all outings. Troop 21 provides backpacks, backpacking stoves, tents, and tarps for boys who cannot afford to purchase these items. Other items, including sleeping bags, sleeping pads and hiking shoes will need to be purchased. If you have any questions or concerns about what to buy and where please contact one of the leaders.

Fund Raising

Troop 21 is very fortunate in our relationship with the church in regard to fund raising. Each January, after the Tournament of Roses Parade, the floats are available for viewing near PHS. First Church of the Nazarene of Pasadena is very kind to let Troop 21 park cars for the float viewers for a reasonable fee during these days. This is the only fund raising activity that Troop 21 has each year. We expect all boys to participate in this activity and extend credit for summer camp accordingly.
