Troop 21 Kayak Project - March 2002

A stack of plywood, buckets of glue and a Troop full of energy fabricated twenty-five one scout kayaks. This was a winter project spanning about two months of team and homework. Each Troop 21 scout selected his own special bow and stern design and then followed a time tested Boy Scout Kayak set of plans. With assistance from adult leaders and parents each scout built his very own ten foot plywood kayak. And not one nail was used in any of the craft! How did we do it? Come to a Troop 21 meeting and ask around, we will be glad to share our secret.

Our boats were first tested in a back yard pool and then launched at Santa Fe Dam Lake. Not a drop water inside, we did it! Later in the year many of the multicolored craft went on a Sierra trip to Huntington Lake for more fun in the outdoors.

This is an example of what lies ahead for young men interested in hands on fun with Boy Scouts. Troop 21 has "yachts" of fun.
